Everyone knows about the famous tulips of Netherlands. But do you know what happens when the tulip season is over and summer rolls around? The Dutch farmers start growing Dahlias. And not only do you get to see Dahlias, you also get to pick them yourself at Dahlia picking farms or "pluktuinen" in Dutch.

So lets dive right into which are the farms known for Dahlia picking, and what is the perfect time to visit them.

When is Dahlia Season in the Netherlands?

Dahlias are seasonal flowers, and you get to see them from August through October.

In late summer, flower gardens take on a golden glow. At that time, the pick-your-own gardens or pluktuinens are filled not only with dahlias but also with a wide variety of sunflowers.

We visited one such farm in the middle of August, and were met with plenty of beautiful flowers to bring home.

The Best Dahlia Picking Farms in the Netherlands

Here are some of the most beautiful dahlia fields and pluktuinen you can visit:

1) 📍De Tuliperij - Voorhut

This would be our number one recommendation, and it is the farm we first visited. The garden itself was very welcoming, it was full of blooming flowers, and the farm had so much to see other than the Dahlias. There was a small corner for antique and vintage home finds, like paintings and mirrors. There was also a cute cafe whose interiors were decorated with wooden seats and flowers everywhere.

We were handed over a basket and a pair of scissors to choose our own Dahlias. It was a beautiful summer day as we wandered around the garden admiring all the pretty flowers. We looked for the most colorful Dahlias to cut and made our own unique basket of flowers.

We later bought the flowers home and adorned our vases with these stunners.

De Tuliperij not just offers Dahlias, it also has a cafe where you get drinks and small food items. We ordered some hot chocolate, and cakes, and sat amidst the flowers and enjoyed rest of our time at this garden.
